Welcome everyone to what is the halfway mark in our busy motorsport calendar, and what a year it has been so far – we have had our ups and downs and upside downs!

The committee has been busy scrambling behind the scenes to organise track repairs and improvements, signage, smooth running of events, and KhanaX Kafe upgrades, with more to come in the coming months to improve the viewing area.

We have been very lucky to have such awesome volunteers in our club who offer their time and machinery to keep us all on track. Russell Grundy has come and given his time and equipment, as well as Chris Russell, not to mention those who spend countless hours filling out paperwork, checking boxes, and crunching numbers. You all keep us out there racing, and we thank you for all the unseen and thankless work you do.

Something exciting and close to my heart is happening on the 27th of June. Our second Women in Motorsport Day will be taking place. It has snowballed this year into something pretty big, taking on the whole complex to give women a taste of Circuit, Motorkhana, and Khanacross. Women will gain confidence and knowledge about all things motorsport, including the opportunity to get up close and personal with lady racers and their cars, and view static displays of many different disciplines, including Speedway and motorbikes. This should be a fantastic day for new and seasoned racers, so I am really looking forward to giving a report on the day once it has taken place. Yet again, I would like to say thank you to those ladies who are giving their time to help run the day. I have been met with overwhelming positivity, which is really making organising the day a lot easier.

So, in closing, I’d just like to say keep all four wheels on the ground – or at the very least two – and have fun!

Please remember, to compete in any Motorsport Australia permitted events, you must be a financial member of a Motorsport Australia affiliated club, and if you wish to be eligible for any of the Motor Sports Club of Tasmania series, you must be a financial member of MSCT for the duration of the series.

Please email your completed renewal form along with a screenshot of your payment receipt to membership@msct.com.au and we will then send out your new electronic membership card.

​What’s On

• ​Static Displays: Get up close and personal with an incredible lineup of race cars, meet the drivers, and ask all your burning questions about getting started.

• ​Come & Try: Ready to experience the thrill firsthand? Take part in Motorkhana, Circuit and Khanacross events. It’s all about car control, navigating the cones, and having an absolute blast in a safe, controlled environment. No prior experience needed!

• ​Complimentary Lunch: We have you covered! A free lunch will be provided for all attendees to keep you fuelled up for the day's action.

​Who is this for? Ladies, from total beginners to lifelong fans looking for a way into the sport, or even those just wondering what it’s all about.

​What to bring: Enclosed shoes, comfortable clothing, and your driving enthusiasm! A helmet is required, though some are available to borrow on the day, you also will not need to supply your own vehicle.

RSVP & Registration: While the event and lunch are entirely free, registrations are essential so we can lock in the catering numbers, this event will be capped at 45 participants with 15 in each group rotating around the three disciplines on the day, with a lunch break for a chat and to learn more from our wonderful ladies that have varied experiences and knowledge about all things motorsport. RSVP closes 23rd June 2026.

As autumn descends, competitors soaked up the last of the warm weather for a cracking day of Khanacross action.

A strong field turned out, and the competition was tight right across the classes. Drivers pushed hard all day, with challenging conditions keeping everyone on their toes and the action on track well and truly heating up.

Congratulations to our outright podium and all class winners - some seriously impressive driving on show.

A massive thank you to all our officials, volunteers and helpers who made the day run so smoothly. From setup to timing, scrutineering and pack‑up, these events simply don’t happen without you, and your efforts are hugely appreciated.

Finally, a big thank you to our round sponsor, Legana Tyres & More, for their continued support of the series.

Twilight Action Delivers at Round 3 – Symmons Plains

Round 3 of the Legana Tyres & More Twilight Khanacross delivered a cracking night of motorsport under lights at Symmons Plains, with a fantastic field of competitors taking on the fast and flowing tests.

Changing conditions kept drivers on their toes throughout the day and into the evening, making for close and exciting competition across all classes. It was great to see a strong mix of first-time entrants and experienced competitors enjoying the challenge, with plenty of smiles at the end of each run.

Congratulations to all class winners and place getters, with special mention to our outright winners:

• AWD Outright: Matthew Von Bertouch (1st), Damien Midgley (2nd), Justin Nickalson (3rd)

• 2WD Outright: Jason Street (1st), Adam Prewer (2nd), Hugh Andrew (3rd)

The female categories were fiercely contested, with strong performances across the board:

• AWD Female: Joanne Woolley (1st), Jenna Brozek (2nd), Abigail Fleming (3rd)

• 2WD Female: Belinda Brock (1st), Laura Hayes (2nd), Ruby Grundy (3rd)

It was also fantastic to see the junior competitors shine, highlighting the future of the sport:

• AWD Junior: James Gaunt (1st), Blake Grundy (2nd), Angus Miller (3rd)

• 2WD Junior: Beau Prewer (1st), Zander Nicklason (2nd), John Osmond (3rd)

A special mention goes to Joanne Woolley, who not only topped the AWD Female category but also drove exceptionally well to place in the top 10 outright competitors for the event. Meanwhile, Zander Nicklason is demonstrating that consistency pays off, continuing to build momentum and putting himself in strong contention for a high placing in the 2WD class for the MSCT Legana Tyres & More 2026 Khanacross Series.

Events like this simply wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support of our officials and volunteers. From setup and timing to recovery, administration and pack-up, your time and dedication are truly appreciated.

A big thank you also goes to our wonderful canteen team, who kept everyone fed, warm and caffeinated throughout a cold Tassie evening - your efforts never go unnoticed.

Finally, thank you to all competitors, families, spectators and supporters for continuing to back grassroots motorsport in Tasmania. We look forward to seeing everyone again at the next round.

The Motorsport Club of Tasmania is proud to announce Nathan Russell as the recipient of the 2025 Scott Hewitt Memorial Award.

This award honours the memory of the late Scott “Scotty” Hewitt, who tragically lost his life in an MSCT rally accident in the late 1980s. It recognises a club member who embodies what MSCT is all about - a fierce competitor, a generous contributor, someone who puts on a show behind the wheel, and who is rarely seen without a big grin while enjoying their motorsport.

The 2025 recipient has been a regular and highly competitive presence in Khanacross, with the occasional Driftkhana appearance, consistently finishing towards the front with an aggressive and entertaining driving style. While often flying under the radar and quietly spoken, their contribution behind the scenes has been outstanding.

Always tinkering and refining their race car, he is happy to share advice, lend a hand to fellow competitors, assist with timing, and has played a pivotal role in setting up and ensuring the reliable operation of the club’s auto timing system over recent years.

In recognition of his commitment, sportsmanship, technical contribution, and passion for the club, the MSCT Executive unanimously selected Nathan as the 2025 Scott Hewitt Memorial Award recipient.

Congratulations on a thoroughly deserved honour.
